Welcome the Spirit of Fall with These Fall-Inspired Cocktails

As summer comes to a close and we trade in our spritzes for warm and spicy cocktails, it’s time to ring in the chillier season with some fall-inspired cocktails! I am not going to lie, while I am a total summer girl, something about fall cocktails really does something for me. I love the notes of spice, smokiness, cinnamon, fruit and nutmeg to name a few… the list goes on! It just gets you in a cozy mood.

The one spirit to transition you into fall? Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon.

BITTER BERRY SMASH

For those who may want to hold on to summer just a little longer, the Bitter Berry Smash serves as the perfect transitional cocktail marrying sweet strawberries and refreshing mint with the sweet and bold flavors of Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon. 

1.5 parts Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon

½ part Cynar Amaro

¼ part Simple Syrup

1 Strawberry

3 dashes Peychaud’s Bitters

METHOD: Muddle strawberry with Peychaud’s Bitters, Cynar and simple syrup in a rocks glass. Add a small scoop of crushed ice and bourbon, then stir for 15 seconds. Top with more crushed ice and garnish with a mint sprig.

HOT BUTTERED TODDY

For those cool nights with friends where you need something more than a sweater to warm you up, the Hot Buttered Toddy might just do the trick. This take on the Hot Toddy uses cinnamon, brown sugar, orange spice tea, Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon and the ultimate twist - butter! 

1.5 parts Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon

6 parts Orange & Spice tea (hot)

¾ part Cinnamon-brown sugar syrup*

½ teaspoon butter

METHOD: Combine all ingredients in a hot toddy glass or mug and stir. Garnish with grated cinnamon.

*CINNAMON-BROWN SUGAR SYRUP: 

1 cup brown sugar

1 cup water

2 cinnamon sticks

Method: Combine all ingredients in a pot and stir while bringing to a boil. Once boiling, reduce to a simmer for 10 minutes. Let cool to room temperature and strain out the cinnamon stick.

SMOKE & MIRRORS

A warm and smoky cocktail with a long and lingering spice served up in a chilled coupe glass. The Smoke & Mirrors secret ingredient? Lapsang Souchong smoky black tea, and Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon of course.

2 parts Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon

¾ parts Amontillado Sherry

¼ part Demerara Sugar Syrup*

2 dashes Angostura Bitters

4 dashes Lapsang Souchong Tea Tincture**

METHOD: Add all ingredients to a mixing glass, add ice and stir. Strain into a chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass. 

**LAPSANG SOUCHONG TEA TINCTURE: 

2 teaspoons Lapsang Souchong

4 parts vodka

Method: Let tea steep in vodka for 24 hours then strain. Put tincture in a dropper or dasher bottle. 

*DEMERARA SUGAR SYRUP: 

1 cup Demerara Sugar

1 cup warm water

Method: Stir together until sugar is completely dissolved. 

BANANA BREAD OLD FASHIONED

With a vanilla aroma and the bold and sweet flavors of walnuts, banana, and Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon, the Banana Bread Old Fashionedis sure to take you down memory lane.

2 parts Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon

¼ part Banana Liqueur

1 bar spoon Allspice Dram

1 bar spoon Simple Syrup

2 dashes Black Walnut Bitters

METHOD: Add all ingredients to a mixing glass, add ice and stir. Then strain into a rocks glass over a large cube.

Autumnal Sippers to Celebrate the Crisp Fall Season

I looooove a good fall cocktail. Something about the spices and “cozier” ingredients gets me so excited to really take in all the fall feels. I wanted to share with you guys two of my current favorites to ring in the new season - don’t worry, I’ll be sharing others but these two are definitely the ones you’ll want to sip the second you lay eyes on the photos! These two include FOS Greek Mastiha, a balanced sweet spirit that has pronounced notes of cucumber, pine, anise, and fresh herbs… yum! Whether you’re more of a pumpkin person or an apple admirer, I’m sure you won’t be able to decide on which one of these autumnal cocktails you prefer.

PUMPKIN PATCH

Pumpkin Patch Cocktail

Ingredients:

1 oz. FOS Greek Mastiha

1 oz. Tequila Reposado

1 oz. Pumpkin Puree

.5 oz. Lemon Juice

Barspoon Maple Syrup

Directions:

Add ingredients to shaker with ice

Shake vigorously

Strain into martini glass

Garnish with brown sugar rum and toasted cinnamon stick.

BRIGHT APPLE

Ingredients:

1.5 oz. FOS Greek Mastiha

1 oz. Apple Cider

.5 oz. Lemon Juice

Barspoon of Honey

Dash Angostura Bitters

Directions:

Add ingredients to a shaker with ice

Shake vigorously

Strain into coupe or rocks glass

Garnish with sliced apples, cinnamon stick, star anise, and/or lemon moons.

My Favorite Far-From-Basic Pumpkin Cocktails

I can't even lie one bit. I. LOVE. anything. PUMPKIN. Yes, I am yelling it!!! Like... why is it so good? It's probably hands down my favorite thing about fall. Pumpkin flavored food and lattes are one thing, but when it comes to pumpkin flavored cocktails... man, you've really got my attenion. I don't know about you, but I'd trade my usual tequila soda with 3 limes any day for a spiked pumpkin concoction.  But where does one find a really amazing pumpkin cocktail? In Las Vegas, New Jersey and Florida. Well, maybe other places too but I think they've got some of the best. Here are my favorite far-from-basic pumpkin cocktails from some fun bars and restaurants around the country, with recipes so you could make at home! Which one would you try? I'm thinking I am going to end my night with a sip of all four of these...!

Smashing Your Pumpkin

2+2=5 (Cause it Can't Even) Pumpkin Cocktail

Available at: Felt & Blossom (MGM National Harbor)

½ oz. Cruzan Aged Light Rum

½ oz. Kappa Pisco

½ oz. Daron Fine Calvados

3 oz. Spiced Pumpkin Cordial

1 oz. Fresh Lemon Juice

½ oz. Egg Whites (Add After First Shake For Reverse Dry Shake)

Build: Add all ingredients into mixing tin, except the egg whites! Add ice and shake vigorously. Strain back into mixing tin and discard ice. Now add egg whites and reverse dry shake for 20 seconds. Pour over ice.

Ice: Chipped

Glass: Crystal Etched Hi Ball

Garnish: Graham Cracker, Cinnamon Stick, Cinnamon Sugar

2.oz Slow & Low Rock & Rye Whiskey

.75 aquafaba 

.75 espresso pumpkin spice syrup

.75 Lemon juice

Ingredients:

3/4 oz Fernet-Branca

3/4 oz Templeton Rye

1 1/2 oz Spiced Pumpkin Syrup

1/4 oz of Creme Yvette

Whole Egg

Top with Brancamenta Whipped Cream

Grated Nutmeg & Garnish with Star Anise

Directions

Add all ingredients into tin, shake, strain into cocktail glass, top with whipped cream, grate fresh nutmeg over top, sip slowly and enjoy!Due to different variables between coconut milk and pumpkin purées that when making the cocktail it should be done to taste

Spiced Pumpkin Syrup: 

One can organic Pumpkin. One can of organic coconut milk. 1/2 cup of brown sugar. 3/4 oz of pimento liqueur (allspice liqueur). Simmer in sauce pan for 10 minutes, let cool then strain through cheese cloth.

Brancamenta Whipped Cream:

Combine half pint of heavy whipping cream with 1 oz of Brancamenta and 2 oz of simple syrup into iSi whipper, charge and store in refrigerator until ready for use.

Ingredients:

*¾ OZ. Hennessy VSOP Cognac and ¾ oz. Plantation 5yr Rum - Bottiglia Cucina & Enoteca

*1 ½ OZ. HILHAVEN LODGE BLENDED AMERICAN WHISKEY - Hearthstone Kitchen & Cellar

*1 ½ OZ. Casamigas Reposado Tequila - Libre Mexican Cantina

*1 ½ OZ. GEORGE DICKEL RYE WHISKY - The Still Crafts, Drafts & Eats

½ OZ. ANCHO REYES ANCHO LIQUEUR

½ OZ. Benedictine

¼ OZ. Agave Syrup (1:1 RATIO)

2 OZ. LIBBEY’S PumpkinPie Purre

1 OZ. Carrot Juice (ODWALLA)

BUILD: Shake & Double Strain

GLASS: Martini Couple

GARNISH: Coconut Foam, Chopped Diced Pecan

COCONUT FOAM - (PER ISI DISPENSER)

200G Coconut Milk

200G Savoy Coconut Cream

100G Sweetend CondensedMilk

20G Sugar

Directions:

Mix all ingredients into a 2QT. cambro. Then, add the mixed coconut base into isi dispenser. Next, charge isi dispenser with isi nitrous oxide whip cream charger. Shake vigorously, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours.

Tis The Season For Fall Cocktail Specials | My Favorites in LA

One of my favorite parts of a new season is the cocktail specials that are created at different bars and restaurants! There's nothing more fun than a festive concoction to get you in the spirit of the chillier weather and changing leaves. Take a break from your daily PSL and indulge in some of my favorite cocktails found at some of my favorite spots in LA. And if you're from out of town, have no fear: Recipes are included! Cheers!

CORNSTAR AT GRACIAS MADRE

Corn Star at Gracias Madre

Ingredients:

Cornchata

Corn flake washed reposado tequila

Vago elote

Agave

Aromatic bitters

Cinnamon-cornflake rim

STRAWPEÑO AT LUCCHINI PIZZERIA & BAR

Strawpeño at Lucchini Pizzeria and Bar

Ingredients:

1.5oz Strawberry and Jalapeño infused “Riazul” Reposado Tequila

.5oz Cointreau

.5oz Agave Nectar

1oz Lime Juice

Garnish:

Strawberry and Jalapeño slice with Half Salted Rim

Glass:

Old Fashioned

Directions:

Add everything into mixing tin, shake well and strain over fresh ice in a half salted rim Old Fashioned glass

1.5oz Effen Cucumber Vodka

.5oz St Germain Elderflower Liqueur

1oz Lemon juice

.5oz Jalapeno and Cilantro Nectar

Garnish:

Jalapeno Slice and Half Celery Salt Rim

Glass: Old Fashioned

Directions:

Add all ingredients to mixing tin with ice. Shake well and strain over fresh ice
