What to Wear for a Glitzy Brunch at Herringbone La Jolla with Sophie Mae Style
I am a firm believer that dressing up for brunch plays a major role in the overall brunching experience. What you're wearing to a specific place ties into brunching lifestyle, because (especially in LA and NYC) it is considered to be more than just a late breakfast.
It's a place to escape with friends, have mimosas and rosé, laugh, eat, take photos... and one of the most fun parts is dressing up for it!
My friend Sophie of SophieMaeStyle.com and I met for brunch at Herringbone down in La Jolla to sip on their endless mimosas and rosé and to discuss just what you should consider when choosing an outfit before you head out.
It's super important of course to stick to your own style, but taking the place you're going to and also your mood for the day are huge contributors for what you're planning on wearing.
Herringbone has the perfect mix of luxe and relaxed, creating that gorgeous "California cool" atmosphere - It's all about "Fresh Meats Field" as the restaurant says, where farm fresh cuisine meets an emphasis on line-caught seafood and meats. The entire space is very open and airy with streams of natural light flowing in. Big trees within the space have every branch lit up to create a magical vibe. Not to mention, the restaurant's chef is Brian Malarkey, former Top Chef Finalist and winning mentor on ABC's The Taste. When dining at Herringbone, you need to step up your brunch attire game.
This is not the kind of place where you can just get up, roll out of bed and sit at the table with a mimosa in hand. Even though you may be in a dress or heels and jeans, it can still be really fun to come up with an outfit that will make you stand out.
The First Look: The Subtle Glam
When you want to go a bit glitzy but do it in a more subtle way, opt for a dress with a lot of sparkle and keep the accessories and shoes simple. I paired this Sparklette Mini Dress from Free People with nude strappy heels and a fabulous crystal choker from Blue Eyed Girl. It's a great look for winter too and could easily be paired with a leather jacket to tone it down. Sophie wore this Gomez Mini Dress by Show Me Your Mumu with a halter top and paired it with little black booties. There's no doubt that if you're wearing something like these two dresses, all eyes will be on you - in a very good way! The looks are super appropriate for brunch at Herringbone.
The Second Look: Black + Gilded Mini Dresses
I'm all for dressing up with sequins and sparkles for brunch. Especially if it's a special occasion like a birthday, a get together or a celebration, why not rock your glitziest look? I donned this Isabelle Embellished Sheath Dress with a geometric motif by Parker and paired it with simple black heels with ankle straps. I absolutely love this dress because it's so me! One thing I love about dressing up for brunch is really not holding back and having that freedom to own your style. Sophie took a more classic take and donned the Glitterati Embellished Silk Shift Dress by Trina Turk which had gleaming floral designs. She paired this shimmery look with black booties to balance out the dressiness with a touch of casual.
The Third Look: Elevated Casual
Some days, you want to keep it casual, but of course still look put together. One of the reasons that I love Herringbone is because you really can go so many different ways with what you want to wear. You can tailor any outfit to make it appropriate! You can rock jeans, a chic velvet shirt and a fab choker like Sophie, or wear a fitted sweater dress like me.
The Fourth Look: All Black Everything
You can never go wrong with an all black outfit. One of the most fun things about dressing in all black is that you can pick really fun textures, patterns and designs on a specific dress, top or romper that steps up the look and adds more interest into the outfit. Both Sophie and I opted for lace, which is always a super flattering option no matter what time of day you're rocking it. I paired with nude heels and Sophie opted for fringe booties to tone down the look.
It was so great to collab with a fellow blogger who happens to be a very talented fashion stylist at one of the best restaurants in San Diego. We had such an amazing time at brunch and it was so fun being able to connect over our love for fashion and boozy brunching! We hope that these looks inspire you to embrace your personal style and to never hold back at your next brunch! Can't wait to head back to Herringbone La Jolla soon!
