Cocktail Spotlight: Sex, Drugs and Rock 'N' Roll at Estrella
Sex, Drugs, and Rock ‘N’ Roll. The world’s most badass phrase just so happens to be the name of an insanely good cocktail at Estrella in West Hollywood.
Estrella’s restaurant concept is inspired by the famed Laurel Canyon bungalows of 70s music icons Joni Mitchell and Mama Cass Elliott. The restaurant’s cocktail menu is also creatively crafted to serve as an ode to the music revolution of that time. Moulin Rouge, Love is Thicker Than Water, Laurel Canyon, and Joni Mitchell are just some of the tempting libations on the menu. It was a tough decision, but I had to go with Sex Drugs, and Rock ‘N’ Roll.
Sex Drugs, and Rock ‘N’ Roll ($15), is as alluring as it sounds, in a really sophisticated way. The super strong concoction is made of Reposado Tequila, mescal, lime, ginger, rosemary and nutmeg. The sexiness of the drink comes from the smoky mescal flavor, and the tequila gives it that potent punch. In this cocktail, the rosemary and nutmeg are so unexpected, but somehow combine perfectly with the strong taste of the tequila which would normally be a little tough to go down. There are so many prominent flavors in this concoction and each one is so distinctive with every sip. I am personally a huge tequila/mescal type of girl, and Sex, Drugs, and Rock ‘N’ Roll really does a great job of mixing those flavors in a spicy, smoky way that gives this drink a true rock star edge.
Refined and sexy, this drink totally makes my favorite drinks of all time list. What easily could have been an expected traditional mescal blend ended up being both a savory and sweet bevvy all at once. Is there anything on Estrella’s menu that isn't exceptional and so one of a kind?
